International Fathers' Mental Health Day (IFMHD) is a global awareness campaign that aims to raise awareness about the importance of mental health support for fathers and promote a culture of understanding, acceptance, and inclusivity. The day is observed the following Monday after Father's Day in the UK every year and involves launching a focused social media campaign that highlights key aspects of fathers’ mental health.
Fathers are often overlooked in mental health discussions
The perinatal period is a time of vulnerability for any expectant or new parent. For dads, the adjustment to parenting can include changes in roles, increased pressure managing work and family, and changes in their relationships and social life.
1 in 10 fathers will experience depression or anxiety during pregnancy or the first year following pregnancy.1
Depression and anxiety are twice as common in expecting and new fathers as compared with global estimates in men.1

Jordan became a dad and found something he hadn't expected: that real strength isn't about holding it all together. After a career-ending injury at 21 wiped out everything he'd worked for, he learnt the hard way that keeping it all to himself wasn't the answer. Fatherhood brought a new sense of purpose, but also the pressure to get everything right. His message to other dads is simple. Asking for help isn't a weakness. It's one of the strongest things you can do. For Jordan, that starts with connection, with other dads, shared experiences, and communities that remind you that you don't have to figure it out alone. Matt was 34 when his daughter Wren was born and passed away eight days later. The grief was like nothing he'd ever felt and the isolation that followed was some of the hardest stuff to navigate. But connecting with others who understood, finding a community where he felt safe to share his story, is what helped him find his feet again. The shadow you can see in this photo is Wren. As a family, Matt and his wife include her in every professional photo, at the age she would be today. Loss is part of some dads' journeys. You don't have to carry it alone.
